Yang Shili started learning violin at the age of seven. He was soon discovered and appreciated by the teachers of the Children’s Palace and appointed as the principal of the Children’s Palace Orchestra. In 1977, he was admitted to the viola major of the Affiliated Middle School of Guangzhou Xinghai Conservatory of Music with excellent results, and studied under Professor Liu Dahan and Lin Zhengxiang. During this period, he participated in many performance exchanges and received unanimous praise from teachers at home and abroad. In 1984, he was admitted to the viola major of the Central Conservatory of Music with excellent results and studied under the famous viola professor Sui Keqiang. Through international art exchanges, the guidance of many top international art masters, and a large amount of high-quality chamber music training, his vision and technology have made great progress. With mature musical sense and accurate skills, he has won praise from experts from various countries. In 1986 and 1987, he served as the principal viola of the China Youth Symphony Orchestra and visited various countries in Eastern and Western Europe. He received rave reviews from all walks of life and caused a sensation. In addition, he also studied band conducting and studied under the famous conductors Huang Hongnian and Huang Feili. He laid a solid foundation for chamber music training.

In 1988, he graduated with honors and was appointed to teach viola and chamber music at Guangzhou Xinghai Conservatory of Music. He has trained a large number of outstanding students, who are now in famous orchestras at home and abroad. He is a regular guest viola performer at the Guangzhou Orchestra. He has performed a large number of famous Chinese and foreign works and is well-known at home and abroad.

In 1994, he was invited to join the Singapore Symphony Orchestra and has been active on the art stage with world art masters from various countries. In addition to playing symphonies, he also performs a lot of chamber music and becomes a member of the “Cui” Quartet. He also engages in a lot of teaching activities and has trained many outstanding local talents. During this period, he was invited to be the artistic director and conductor of Victoria Junior College, Singapore Girls’ High School, and Singapore Polytechnic, and received many praises.
